Welcome to the Willamette Explorer map tools. You can use these tools to create your own maps and statistical reports for the Willamette Basin using our collection of Geographic Information System (GIS) data layers.
There are three views of the mapping tool to accommodate the needs of novices and experts alike. These are the basic mapping tool , the search map tool, and the advanced map tool.
Using our basic mapping tool requires three easy steps. First, select what to map. We have made a selection of pre-built maps relating to the key issues of the Willamette River Basin. Second, choose where you want the map centered. You can enter an address, a place name like a city or town name, or you can select a region like a county or a watershed. Once you have selected what and where to map, you get a “live” map. With the “live” map, you can zoom in and out, turn on and off map layers, and identify map features. You can also print or email your map.
Use the Advanced map tool if you are familiar with GIS mapping techniques. You will be able to create maps using all available data layers and make use of the advanced tool set.
If you want to find conservation and restoration opportunities, use the search map tool . This three step tool allows you to search for and map land areas containing potential conservation and restoration opportunities as identified by researchers in the Pacific Northwest Ecosystem Research Consortium. In this tool, you first select the type of conservation or restoration opportunity that you want to find. Second, you select where to search. This can be a county, a 4th field watershed, or an urban growth boundary. Once you have selected what to find and where to find it, you get a "live" map showing the selected conservation or restoration opportunity. Like the basic mapping tool, with the map search tool you can zoom in and out, turn on and off layers, identify map features, and print or email your map.
